Many people visit Melbourne for the multi-cultural lifestyle, jazzy coffee shops, and cosmopolitan-style cocktail bars. There are parts of Melbourne that many people don’t know about, or at least don’t add to their itinerary when planning their trip. One of the most overlooked places for holiday makers and families is the amazing beauty and activities available in St. Kilda.
The guide below will inform you of 5 things you must do when you visit St.Kilda:

Acland Street is known as the social hub of St.Kilda. The surprisingly animated Acland Street is famous for several reasons. For the sweet tooth’s and foodies, there are a variety of unique cake shops and cafes that are stacked with hand-made, never-before-seen varieties of desserts and snacks that tempt people, so much so that many of them have a line that goes outside the store itself. For those who prefer the nightlife, Acland Street has some of the funkiest bars and restaurants. St.Kilda has it’s variety of diverse shops to offer, and have made Acland Street a must-do for anyone visiting Victoria.
St. Kilda’s Sunday Markets
Chances are you will need a relaxing Sunday stroll after visiting St.Kilda’s crazy bars on a Saturday night. Well, the good news is, every Sunday, St. Kilda holds its famous arts and crafts market, held along the beachside Esplanade. These markets have been in operation since 1970 and is more of an institution, with over 200 stalls offering jewellery, original art, pottery, wood, glass, and more. Often, you will find that the artists are creating more art as you browse their already-finished work. Best of all, there is a wonderful, easygoing atmosphere surrounding the entire place. Make sure to add the St. Kilda markets to your to-do list when visiting Melbourne.
Visit St.Kilda Pier
The St.Kilda Pier offers a spectacular view of Port Phillip Bay. It is an area with a large history of Melbourne and is often favoured by walkers, runners, and fishermen alike. From here you can get on a ferry to the historic and beautiful Williamstown. If you need a quick snack, there is a famous kiosk, but what most people come down here for is to try and spot a colony of penguins, which can often be seen, depending on the time of year and weather.
The Botanical Gardens
The site of the St. Kilda Botanical Gardens was established in the 1800’s. They are a brilliant way to spend a relaxed afternoon for a picnic or a stroll. If you are a wildlife buff, you can see plenty of native birds that reside in the gardens, including owls and lorikeets. This is also a perfect location to get married, if that is the purpose of your trip. The gardens have all the amenities needed to enjoy a brilliant afternoon.
The Palais Theatre
This historic theatre presents the city with some of the best entertainment in the area. Whether it is music, a show, or even the Melbourne comedy festival, the Palais Theatre holds them all.
